Steelhead Beach is pretty popular summer destination for lots of folks around Santa Rosa and the surrounding towns. There’s a boat launch, picnic area, and plenty of easily accessible walking trails. The Russian River winds through the park and is an excellent place to go fishing.
We’re particularly fond of Steelhead Beach because it’s just a short walk from home. For our taste, the best times to go and enjoy the trails are during the off season when it’s less crowded. The river can be dangerous at times especially during the winter rainy season.
From the Sonoma County Regional Parks website:
Steelhead Beach Regional Park is known best for its beach access to the Russian River, but this 26-acre park also includes several short trails that may be connected to make a nearly 1-mile loop through the woods along the riverbank.
The path is shaded by impressive cottonwoods, big leaf maple, Oregon ash, and several other riparian tree species.
Restrooms and picnic areas are available at the parking lot.
